There’s Hope in Every Can: Student Food Drive

When students lead, communities follow. This spring, the Mukilteo School District’s Superintendent’s Cabinet — a group of middle and high school student leaders from across the district — is taking action to fight food insecurity right here at home. Their goal? Collect 1,000 items for students and families in need.

Food insecurity is closer than many of us realize. For families in our community, keeping the pantry stocked can be a daily challenge. That’s why these student leaders have partnered together to organize a district-wide food drive — and they need your help to make it a success.

How to Donate

Drop off non-perishable food or cash at either Sound Credit Union branch — located at 9901 Harbour Pl in Mukilteo or 33 SE Everett Mall Way in Everett — anytime during the month of April. Prefer to give in person? Students will also be collecting donations at the Mukilteo QFC on May 8th and 9th. Come say hello and drop something in.

Every donation goes directly to stocking pantry shelves at Mariner, Kamiak, and ACES high schools, as well as the district pantry on Sharon Drive in Everett.

What to Bring

Not sure what to donate? Here’s what’s needed most: canned meals and proteins like tuna, chicken, and soup; quick meals such as mac and cheese and ramen; snacks and fruit like granola bars and fruit cups; pantry staples including peanut butter, rice, and cereal; shelf-stable dairy products like milk and cheese; and toiletries and personal care essentials.

A Community Effort

This drive is made possible through a partnership between Sound Credit Union, QFC, and the Mukilteo School District Student Cabinet. When neighbors, businesses, and students work together, real change happens.

One can at a time, we can make sure no student goes hungry.
