Diwali Festival of Lights

November 5 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The City of Mukilteo and the Mukilteo Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission invite the community to the Diwali Festival of Lights from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, November 5, at the Rosehill Community Center. Experience and learn more about this vibrant South Asian cultural tradition through an evening of music, dance, food, colorful decorations, henna, crafts, and cultural activities.

Diwali, often known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most widely celebrated festivals across South Asia and by South Asian communities around the world. Traditionally observed around the new moon, when the night sky is at its darkest, Diwali is marked by the lighting of lamps and candles that illuminate homes, streets, and gathering spaces.

The light of Diwali carries many meaningful themes. It commonly symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. It is also a time associated with renewal, new beginnings, gratitude, generosity, and coming together with family, friends, and community.

Whether Diwali is part of your own family tradition or you are experiencing it for the first time, we invite you to join your neighbors in celebrating the richness of South Asian culture and the universal message of light, hope, and community.
