Art, Austria and Auschwitz: The Story of Ria Munk

August 8 @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us at the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum to learn about a remarkable episode in the history of the Holocaust. John Pedack, historian and social studies teacher, will trace the ‘life’ of Gustav Klimt’s posthumous portrait of Ria Munk, which was stolen by the Nazis from the Munk family in 1941.
Pedack will provide insight into the painting’s origins, its theft, and the dispute about its rightful owner that culminated in an international legal battle in the early 2000s. The ‘life’ this painting is filled with incredible and unexpected twists so you won’t want to miss this lecture!
