Help Local Charities

This year so many people are in need of help and resources are a little thin. With donations down and budgets being cut, local charities are having a hard time serving the people who need it most. If you are able to help them, please give. No donation is too small.

Back to School Resources

For families starting school this week, here are a couple good reminders, just in case you don’t have these links at your fingertips:

School District Family Technology Resources website
Two paths to get support:
1. Distance Learning Technology Support Form
2. Call 425-356-1207 –Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Families in need can request a student laptop or internet resources on the School District Family Technology Resources website. There are 6,000 laptops available for checkout, which are then picked up at the student’s school.

Additional information about distance learning is on the MSD Distance Learning page

And, separate but related, childcare options in the County are increasing with federal CARES dollars. Programs by the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs will include paraeducators and mental health support staff. The Herald details the program.

New Grant Opportunity

Mukilteo businesses can now apply for grants between $2,500 and $10,000, through September 1, at this link. Businesses will need a Mukilteo location (in 98275), 20 or fewer employees, and a demonstrated impact from the pandemic. Applications are open from August 20 through September 1. Awards will be made about a week after that on September 9.

Eligible Purposes
Through the Mukilteo CARES for Businesses Program, eligible small businesses physically located in the City of Mukilteo that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic will have the opportunity to apply for a small business grant to:

  • Support business recovery
  • Ensure a safe environment for owners, staff, and customers
  • Protect local jobs
These expenditures must have been incurred only between March 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020 to be eligible.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of examples of disallowable functions for grant funds:

  • Paying off non-business debt, such as personal credit cards for purchases not associated with the business
  • Purchase of personal expenses such as buying a new family car or making repairs to a home
  • Paying rent, mortgage and utilities on a personal place of residence unless paid in direct equivalency to business expense percentages, as set forth in tax records
  • Direct financing to political activities or paying off taxes and fines
  • Purchase of personal items

Resource Guide

As the City of Mukilteo and surrounding areas continue to monitor the latest information from the Snohomish Health District, Department of Health and Center for Disease Control (CDC) regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus they ask community members to stay informed, calm and vigilant in order to keep our communities safe.

We put together a resource guide for local Mukilteo residents that will keep them informed with factual information.

This is a work in progress, we will be updating this information as it becomes available. Last update 9:53AM, 11/20/2020

Edmonds encourages free COVID-19 testing Nov. 23

The City of Edmonds is partnering with Verdant Health Commission and Medical Teams International to provide free, non-invasive COVID-19 testing Monday, November 23rd from 10am–5pm at the Edmonds Woodway High School South parking lot (enter off of 76th Ave W). This is a drive-thru event, but walk-ups will not be turned away.

“The goal is to test as many people in the community as possible,” said Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson. “You may not be showing symptoms, but could still spread the virus. Getting tested protects your loved ones.”

The City encourages residents to put the family in the car and get everyone tested. See the full Facebook post for more details.

This event is open to everyone including non-residents of Edmonds.

Holiday Trees for Salmon

Northwest Stream Center is hosting their “Holiday Trees for Salmon” event again this year. You can purchase a live potted tree, and after you decorate it for the holiday season, you can either plant the tree on your own, or return it to the Stream Center so that they can plant it next to a local salmon stream! Trees will be available for purchase starting Tuesday, December 1. Visit the website for more information, or to make a reservation to do the stream walk.
